Stop peddling Paganism.

You may have heard that bunnies and eggs are pagan symbols. Like how people used to worship the sun, they revered the bunnies and chicks as symbols of fertility. We know the seasons change every year, but to them, it was a miracle that things regrew in the spring. So they worshipped it. That's Paganism in a nutshell.
Meanwhile, Jesus came to earth to save us from sin. He was miraculously conceived, survived assassination attempts, lived like us but led a perfect life.
He taught us about God and how to live in accordance with God. He performed miracles and proved he was God's son. He taught us how to achieve everlasting life.
He was terribly crucified, died, rose from the dead and ascended back into Heaven. He took the punishment for our sin so we wouldn't have to. And we let this get washed out by marshmellow peeps and candy eggs?
Easter is the greatest day of the Christian faith. But, Easter has gone from Jesus resurrection to bunny confection. And its been normalized for us to be okay with pushing Jesus aside in favor of eggs, jellybeans and bunnies. What?? What message does that give your kids? Jesus is your savior, comma, the Easter bunny came. It just doesn't make sense.
A survey of children at a Christian preschool showed that shocking 80% thought we celebrated Easter because of - you guessed it - The Easter Bunny. That's a Christian preschool! But, here's the point. They weren't taught that. They inferred it from the things they saw and their Easter baskets last year. And, like with most things, if that's what Easter becomes to them, then they will pass that on to their kids. You see the problem?
Look, we are here now. And, it doesn't really matter how we got here. What matters is that we flip the script and stop taking social cues from Big Culture. Did you know that Big Candy sold $5 billion in candy last year? Why does that matter? I don't know! Its probably something. Like, maybe its very profitable to peddle this version of Easter.
What I know for sure is that it is up to each of us to make Jesus the feature of Easter. This is the year we take Easter back. So start by booting the Bunny and, instead, put a Talking Jesus Doll in your kids Easter Basket.
